The Duo 2300c Service Source limits ADB devices on the Floppy Adapter to 100 mA in total.<ref name="ss2300">Apple Computer, ''PowerBook Duo 2300c'' Service Source, Specifications, PDF p. 21. Hosted as [[:File:PowerBook Duo 2300c Service Source.pdf]].</ref> The adapter leaves the Duo's serial port and modem jack uncovered.<ref name="duofaq" />

== Fitting and removing ==
# Raise the Duo's I/O door.
# Push the adapter firmly onto the external 152-pin docking port, with its release button up.
# To remove it, press the release button and pull the adapter off.<ref name="ss200up" />
Apple serviced the adapter by whole-unit exchange; the Service Source gives no take-apart procedure or parts for it.<ref name="ss200up" />

== Troubleshooting ==
Apple's charts for the external floppy drive on a Duo put the adapter after the cable and before the drive:<ref name="ss200ts">Apple Computer, ''PowerBook 200 Series'' Service Source, Troubleshooting chapter, "Symptom Charts/External Floppy Drive", PDF pp. 51–54, and "Peripherals", PDF pp. 56–64.</ref>
{| class="wikitable styled-table" style="width:100%; text-align:left;"
|+'''External floppy faults through the adapter (Apple symptom charts)'''<ref name="ss200ts" />
! Symptom !! Action, in Apple's order
|-
| Picture and sound present but the external drive does not work || Check the adapter's connection to the PowerBook; try a known-good disk; check, then replace, the floppy drive cable; replace the floppy adapter; replace the drive; replace the logic board
|-
| Disk ejects at startup, Mac icon with a blinking X || Known-good system disk; check that the trackball or mouse button is not stuck; floppy cable; floppy adapter; drive; logic board
|-
| Disk does not eject || Hold the mouse or trackball button down while switching on, or push a straightened paper clip into the hole beside the slot; floppy cable; floppy adapter; drive; logic board
|-
| Disk initialisation fails, or read, write and copy errors || Known-good disk; floppy cable; floppy adapter; drive
|-
| Cursor does not move with a mouse on the adapter || Check the adapter and mouse connections; press Command-Control-Power On; clean the mouse; then replace the mouse, the adapter and the logic board in turn
|}
When replacing a Duo logic board for these faults, Apple says to check that both EMI clips are secure on the CPU stiffener.<ref name="ss200ts" /> See [[Floppy Drive Repair]] for the drive itself.

== Third-party micro docks ==
Other makers built docks in the same shape as the Floppy Adapter, each with an ADB port and one other connection. The Duo FAQ of July 1994 lists the Newer Technology SCSI MicroDock and the Lapis SCSI Dock (HDI-30 SCSI with SCSI disk mode), the Newer Technology Color MicroDock (8-bit video and sound out) and Ethernet micro docks from Newer Technology and Asanté.<ref name="duofaq" /> Apple did not sell SCSI, video or Ethernet versions.<ref name="af9410b">Apple Computer, ''Apple Facts'', October 1994, "PowerBook Duo Accessories", PDF p. 92: Duo Dock and Duo Dock II, MiniDock, Floppy Adapter, HDI-20 floppy drive, Duo Express Modem, rechargeable battery, battery recharger, AC adapter, File Assistant and PowerBook/DOS Companion.</ref>
