The first three models used ST-506 and ESDI drives on a disk adapter card. In March 1990 IBM announced the SCSI models (-121, -321, -A21, -A31) with its Micro Channel SCSI adapter as the standard disk controller; IBM's letter for the A21 and A31 says that with them it "introduces Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) as a standard feature to the PS/2 product line". IBM listed OS/2 Standard and Extended Edition 1.1 and 1.2, DOS 3.3 and 4.0, and AIX PS/2 1.2 as supported on the -121 and -321.<ref name="a190054" /><ref name="a190055" />
