This privacy policy applies to the RetroTechCollection Wiki (https://wiki.retrotechcollection.com), and explains how your data is collected, used, and protected when you access or contribute to this site.

By using this website, you agree to the terms set out in this privacy policy. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. The wiki's server is hosted in the United Kingdom. All traffic to the site passes through Cloudflare's network, and some of the services listed under Third-party services process data outside the UK.

We process your personal data under the following legal bases:

Consent: when you create an account, and for optional details you choose to give, such as an email address or real name
Legitimate interests: for security, preventing abuse, and maintaining the wiki
Legal obligation: when required to comply with UK law

What information we collect

We may collect and process the following types of personal data:

Account registration information: username and password (stored securely), and, if you give them, an email address and a real name. Both are optional; a real name may be used to credit your work.
Sign-in data: if you use the "Sign in with RetroTechCollection" button, the wiki receives your account details, such as your username and email address, from the RetroTechCollection account service at id.retrotechcollection.com.
IP addresses and browser user agents: collected automatically for security, spam prevention, and abuse detection. Edits held for moderation are stored with the IP address and browser details of the person who made them, for the moderator reviewing them. If you edit without logging in, your IP address is shown publicly in the page history.
Security check data: the account creation form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which collects information about your browser and device to tell people from automated programs.
Usage data: Google Analytics records the pages you visit, the page you came from, the time of your visit, your approximate location (from your IP address), and your device and browser.
Interaction data: Microsoft Clarity records how you use a page, including clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, along with the page address and your device and browser. Clarity uses this to build heatmaps and replays of visits. It is not loaded on the sign-in, account creation, password or preferences pages.

Public contributions: any content you submit (edits, page creation, discussions) is publicly visible and retained indefinitely

How we use your information

We use your information to:

Manage user accounts and login sessions
Enable editing and discussion features
Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or malicious activity
Improve and maintain the performance of the site, and understand how it is used
Communicate important updates regarding your account or contributions
Investigate, prevent, or respond to suspected abuse or violations of site policy
Comply with legal obligations under the Online Safety Act 2023
Protect users, especially minors, from harmful content

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

Cloudflare, Inc.: every request to the site passes through Cloudflare, which protects the site from attacks and delivers its pages. Cloudflare processes your IP address and the details of each request, and may run a security check on your browser if a request looks automated. Google Analytics (Google LLC): loaded on every page to measure how the site is used. It sets cookies and sends Google the usage data described above. Google privacy policy. Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation): loaded on every page except the sign-in and account pages, to show how visitors use the wiki. Wikimedia Commons: some images, such as manufacturer logos, are loaded directly from Wikimedia's servers (upload.wikimedia.org), which receive your IP address and browser details when your browser fetches them. Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy

These services may transfer data outside the UK/EEA with appropriate safeguards in place.

Cookies

This wiki uses:

Essential cookies, set by the wiki: required for logging in, editing and basic functions
Security cookies, set by Cloudflare: only if your browser is shown a security check
Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics: to understand how visitors use the site
Analytics cookies, set by Microsoft Clarity: to see how visitors move around the site's pages

You can manage cookies in your browser settings, but disabling the wiki's own cookies will prevent you from logging in or editing pages. The cookie policy lists each cookie and what it does.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

When required by law, court order, or government request
With law enforcement or Ofcom when investigating illegal content
With service providers who help us operate the wiki (under strict data protection agreements), including the third-party services listed above

Data retention

Account information: retained while your account is active plus 30 days after deletion
Public contributions: preserved indefinitely as part of the wiki's historical record
IP logs: retained for 12 months for security purposes
Email communications: retained for 24 months

If you wish to delete your account, contact an administrator. Public contributions will remain but can be anonymised upon request.

Children's privacy

Our wiki is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our systems.

Data security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. In the event of a data breach likely to result in risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you within 72 hours.
