RetroTechCollection:Cookie policy
This cookie policy explains the cookies used on the RetroTechCollection Wiki (https://wiki.retrotechcollection.com). It is part of the Privacy policy.
A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. The wiki sets its own cookies so that logging in and editing work. Two outside services, Cloudflare and Google Analytics, set cookies of their own.
Cookies set by the wiki
[edit source]The wiki runs on MediaWiki. Its cookie names start with retrotec_mw14890_mwqp_.
| Cookie | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
retrotec_mw14890_mwqp__session |
Keeps you logged in during a visit and protects edits against forgery. It is also set when you edit without an account, so that the wiki can show you your edit while it waits for moderation. | Until you close your browser |
retrotec_mw14890_mwqp_UserID, retrotec_mw14890_mwqp_UserName |
Identify your account when you are logged in. | Until you log out, or for a longer period if you tick "Keep me logged in" |
retrotec_mw14890_mwqp_Token |
Keeps you logged in between visits. Set only if you tick "Keep me logged in". | Until you log out or it expires |
cpPosIndex, UseDC |
Set briefly after you save a change, so that you see your own edit straight away. | A few seconds |
loginnotify_prevlogins |
Records that you have logged in from this browser before, so that you can be warned about logins from browsers the wiki does not recognise. | Long-lived |
The wiki may also store interface choices in your browser, such as which editor you used last or that you have dismissed a site notice, using cookies or your browser's local storage.
These cookies are needed for the wiki to work. If you block them, you can still read the wiki, but you cannot log in or edit.
Cookies set by other services
[edit source]Cloudflare
[edit source]Every request to the site passes through Cloudflare, Inc. If Cloudflare decides that a request might be automated, it shows your browser a security check and may set cf_clearance or __cf_bm to record that the check was passed. These cookies are short-lived. The account creation form also uses Cloudflare's Turnstile check, which runs from challenges.cloudflare.com. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Google Analytics
[edit source]Every page loads Google Analytics (measurement ID G-J89ZWFM0RP), which sets _ga and _ga_J89ZWFM0RP. They tell visits and visitors apart so that the wiki can count how its pages are used, and they last up to two years. See the Google privacy policy.
You can block Google Analytics with your browser's settings or with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The wiki works normally without it.
Images from Wikimedia Commons
[edit source]Some images, such as manufacturer logos, are loaded directly from Wikimedia's servers (upload.wikimedia.org). The wiki does not ask Wikimedia to set cookies, but your browser contacts Wikimedia's servers to fetch these images. See the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy.
Managing cookies
[edit source]You can view, block and delete cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the wiki's own cookies stops you logging in and editing. Blocking Cloudflare's cookies may mean you are shown security checks more often. Blocking Google Analytics has no effect on how the wiki works.
