* The 1.2 V NiCd backup cell BT1 on the main board leaks with age. Remove and inspect it before powering a stored machine; see the [[Acorn Archimedes A540#Backup battery|A540 page]].
* Clean the power supply's air filter at least once a year; the replacement is Acorn part 0816,017.<ref name="ig" />
* The self-test flashes its fault code on the floppy drive light, which the R225 does not have.
