== Backlights and power == Apple's charts attribute a screen that has dimmed over time to failing backlights, which it gives an average life of 10,000 hours (about 40 hours a week for five years), and referred backlight replacement to Apple or an authorised dealer.<ref name="ss15" /> On the DVI version, a power light that repeats two short amber flashes and one long one indicates a backlight problem.<ref name="ssdvi" /> Displays often turn up without their power adapter. TinkerDifferent members report that the adapter for the Rev. B (M4551) is rated 24 V at 1.875 A, that its plug is centre positive, and that the socket on the display cable takes a 5.5 Γ 2.5 mm barrel plug; one member ran the display from a generic 24 V 2 A supply through a barrel adapter, and another converted an old Verifone power adapter.<ref name="td3249">TinkerDifferent forum thread [https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/apple-15-inch-studio-display-m4551-missing-a-power-supply.3249/ "Apple 15 inch Studio Display (M4551) missing a power supply"], February 2024 to January 2026. ComputerCompulsive: the blueberry display takes a 45 W, 24 V, 1.875 A adapter; later used a replacement with adapters. Fizzbinn: measured the plug as centre positive. PopeLeo: measured the barrel jack on the display as 5.5 Γ 2.5 mm; a generic 24 V 2 A supply with a female-to-female 5.5 Γ 2.5 mm adapter worked. Elemenoh: converted a Verifone power adapter with a female barrel connector. Community experience.</ref> Check the polarity and voltage of any substitute before connecting it.
