IBM counts five or six storage positions: four 3.5-inch half-height (two of them accessible from the front) plus one 5.25-inch full-height, which can instead be fitted with two 3.5-inch half-height drives using the SCSI Fixed Disk Drive Kit A.<ref name="qref80" /> The 25 MHz machines support five internal storage devices as standard and six with an option.<ref name="a190055" />

The 44 MB, 70 MB, 115 MB and 314 MB drives are 5.25-inch full-height units; the SCSI drives are 3.5-inch half-height. IBM's published power figures are 31–39 W for the 44–115 MB drives, 35–42 W for the 314 MB drive and 13–19 W for a 3.5-inch SCSI drive — worth knowing before loading a tired supply.<ref name="qref80" /><ref name="atpwr80" />
