The '''IBM Mobile Systems ThinkPad 770 (9548), 770E/ED (9548), 770X (9549), 770Z (9549) Hardware Maintenance Manual''' is IBM's service manual for the ThinkPad 770 family, form number S10L-9621-02, part number 37L5152, Third Edition (January 1999), 136 pages. The original 770 also has a section in [[IBM ThinkPad HMM Volume 4 (380/385/560/560E/760)|Volume 4]] (September 1997). == Contents == Page numbers are the manual's own. * General descriptions (pp. 1-46): introduction, drive and diskette compatibility matrix (p. 3), multilingual safety notices, safety information (p. 10), laser compliance statement (p. 14); read this first (p. 16); FRU replacement notices (p. 19); related service information (p. 23) including passwords (p. 24) and power management; checkout guide (p. 30) with the power systems checkout (p. 36); running the diagnostics (p. 40). * ThinkPad 770, 770E, 770X and 770Z, from p. 47: product overview (p. 49), status indicators, symptom-to-FRU index (p. 52) including DVD-related symptoms (p. 59). * FRU removals and replacements (pp. 68-113): from 1010 Battery pack (p. 70), 1020 UltraBay II device or second battery pack and 1050 Backup battery and DIMM (p. 75) to 1100 Standby battery (p. 88), 1150 DC-DC card (p. 94) and the LCD procedures (pp. 106-112). * Locations (p. 114), including the password jumper (p. 116). * Parts list (p. 117): LCD FRUs (p. 122), keyboard unit (p. 124), common parts (p. 127). Notices (p. 129). == What this manual does not contain == The manual works at FRU level. It has no schematics and no component values, and a system board is a single part number. The only capacitor it mentions is the "bulging capacitor" hazard in the safety inspection guide. == What it settles == The power systems checkout (pp. 36-38) gives these limits: AC adapter output +15.5 to +17.0 V dc at pin 1; battery pack discharged if below +11.0 V dc between terminals 1 and 4, and 4 to 30 kΞ© between terminals 3 and 4 if above it; backup battery +2.5 to +3.2 V dc on the red wire. The 770 also has a separate standby battery (FRU 1100, p. 88). <pdf> File:IBM ThinkPad 770 770E 770ED 770X 770Z Hardware Maintenance Manual.pdf </pdf> Download: [[:File:IBM ThinkPad 770 770E 770ED 770X 770Z Hardware Maintenance Manual.pdf|IBM ThinkPad 770 770E 770ED 770X 770Z Hardware Maintenance Manual.pdf]] == Related pages == * [[IBM ThinkPad HMM Volume 4 (380/385/560/560E/760)]], [[IBM ThinkPad 600 600E (2645) Hardware Maintenance Manual]] * [[IBM ThinkPad Notebooks - Personal Systems Reference]] (machines withdrawn by January 2001) and [[IBM ThinkPad Notebooks (A/G/T/X) - Personal Systems Reference]] (A, G, T and X series withdrawn by May 2005), for model specifications by type-model [[Category:IBM Service Manuals]] [[Category:Service Manuals]]
