IBM PS2 Model 55 Technical Reference (February 1989)
The IBM Personal System/2 Model 55 Technical Reference (the cover title; the machine is the Model 55 SX, type 8555) is IBM's 68-page model-specific interface reference, First Edition, February 1989. The preface says it is to be used with the PS/2 Hardware Interface Technical Reference and the PS/2 and PC BIOS Interface Technical Reference. The October 1990 second edition is also hosted.

- Section 1, System Overview (p. 1-1): description, system board features, block diagram, I/O address map and specifications (p. 1-7), including physical specifications (Table 1-4, p. 1-8).
- Section 2, Programmable Option Select (p. 2-1): system board POS address map, card selected feedback, system board enable/setup (hex 0094), POS registers 2 to 5 (hex 0102-0105) and adapter setup.
- Section 3, System Board (p. 3-1): the microprocessor and math coprocessor, Micro Channel central arbiter and bus adapter (p. 3-6), diskette drive controller (p. 3-8), ROM and RAM with error recovery, system memory map and memory connectors, RT/CMOS RAM (p. 3-13), NMI, system control ports B and A, power-on password and the Type 2 serial port controller (p. 3-27).
What this manual does not contain
editIt is a programming and interface reference: no FRU numbers, removal procedures, symptom index, schematics or component values. There is no power supply section; the October 1990 edition adds one.
What it settles
editTable 1-4 (p. 1-8): 406 × 397 × 102 mm, 8.64 kg, heat output 140 W, input 90-137 V or 180-265 V at a maximum of 2.5 A or 1.3 A, and maximum allowable currents of 275 mA from the keyboard port and 300 mA from the auxiliary device port.
