The Apple AudioVision 14 Display volume of Apple's Service Source is a 121-page service manual for the AudioVision 14 Display, the 14-inch monitor with built-in speakers, microphone and an ADB/audio/video breakout to a single cable. The PDF was distilled on 15 December 1995.

Specifications as printed

Item Value
Picture tube 14 in diagonal, 13 in viewable
Screen resolution 640 x 480
Scan rates horizontal 35.0 kHz; vertical refresh 66.7 Hz
Mains 100-240 VAC ±10%, 50-60 Hz ±3%
Power 55 W maximum, all line conditions
Fuse internal power-line fuse; Apple states it must be replaced with the same type by a qualified service technician, and prints no rating
Size / weight 13 in (330 mm) H x 13.5 in (344 mm) W x 15.5 in (394 mm) D; 33 lb (15 kg)
Warm-up time 20 minutes required to meet all specifications
User controls front keypad: contrast, brightness, volume, mute, microphone; rear panel on/off switch

The 20-minute warm-up figure is the one to quote before condemning a display for brightness or convergence: Apple's own specification does not hold until the tube has been on for twenty minutes.

Contents

  • Basics - Self-Threading Screws (pdf pp. 3-4). Apple warns that the screws in this chassis cut their own threads in plastic; cross-threading them on reassembly ruins the boss.
  • Specifications - Characteristics, Controls, Electrical, Physical, Environmental (pdf pp. 6-12)
  • Troubleshooting - General; symptom charts for No Raster, Geometry, Synchronization, Video, Audio and Miscellaneous (pdf pp. 14-26)
  • Take Apart - Rear Cover, Audio Enclosure and Speakers, Video Cable and Strain Relief, Main Board, On/Off Switch Assembly, Monitor Stand, Base Assembly, Front Panel Controls and LEDs, CRT Assembly, Microphone Assembly, Bezel, Fuse (pdf pp. 28-80)
  • Adjustments - Geometry, Video, Light Meter Setup, Convergence, Geometric Distortion (pdf pp. 82-119)
  • Exploded View (pdf pp. 120-121)

What this manual does not contain

Module-level only: no parts list, no schematic, no component values, no fuse rating and no audio amplifier data. The Audio symptom chart's cures are to replace the speaker assembly, the sound enclosure or the main board.

A note on duplication

This page and Apple AudioVision 14 Display Service Source embed the same file, Audiovision 14 display.pdf. They are not two revisions and not two manuals: the wiki has one AudioVision 14 Service Source volume under two page titles. Cite whichever title you find, but do not treat a figure as corroborated because it appears on both.
