The LaserWriter 10/600 A3+ volume of Apple's Service Source is 351 pages long, and it is the single most detailed service document in the whole Apple Service Source set held on this wiki. Its own title page states: "This printer is an Asia-only product."

The PDF's internal creation date reads 9 October 1956, which is impossible; the file belongs with the rest of the mid-1990s Service Source distillations and that date should not be quoted.

Why this one is different

Every other Service Source volume is organised as Basics / Specifications / Troubleshooting / Take Apart / Adjustments. This one is organised as an OEM engine service manual, with the section structure of the engine manufacturer rather than Apple's, and it includes the two chapters Apple normally omits:

  • Section 3 - Parts Lists
  • Section 5 - Principle of Operation

So where a reader is told that Apple never published circuit-level or parts-level documentation for its printers, this volume is the counter-example to check first.

Contents, as printed

  • Section 1 Introduction - About This Manual (organisation, revision, notational conventions, OEM-specific specifications, abbreviations), Associated Documents, Safety Information (safety components, laser beam, power, driving sections, high-temperature sections)
  • Section 2 Specifications
  • Section 3 Parts Lists
  • Section 4 Removal and Replacement Procedures (RRP)
  • Section 5 Principle of Operation
  • Section 6 General Procedures and Information
  • Section 7 Fault Isolation Procedures
  • Section 8 Installation and Removal

Page numbering is by section (1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and so on), not continuous, so cite section and page rather than a PDF page number where possible.

What this manual does not contain

The parts list is an assembly and spare-part list keyed to exploded drawings: it gives Apple/OEM part numbers for replaceable items, not a bill of materials of individual resistors and capacitors, and there is no circuit schematic. "Principle of Operation" describes how the engine works block by block, not how each circuit is wired. Because the printer was an Asia-only product, the electrical section documents only the mains configuration sold in those markets.

Safety: a laser printer's fuser runs at several hundred degrees and its high-voltage supply drives the corona and developer bias. Let the fuser cool for at least five minutes (ten on the Pro 600/630) before touching it, and follow the manual's own capacitor-discharge step where one is given. The mains side of the DC power supply is live in the usual way; treat it as you would any switched-mode supply.
