What it covers

Apple's own technical overview of the Macintosh family as it stood in 1987 — the 512K enhanced, Plus, SE and II — describing the processor, memory, the ROM and Toolbox, the file system, printing, networking and the expansion architecture (NuBus is credited to Texas Instruments on the copyright page).

It is the highest-level of Apple's Inside Macintosh family of documents and is written to orient a developer, not to serve a technician.

This is not a repair source

This is a programming book. It contains no schematics, no parts lists, no component values, no voltages, no connector pinouts and no service procedures, and nothing in it should be cited for a hardware figure. Apple's software documentation and its compiler manuals describe the machine as the programmer sees it, which is not the machine the technician sees.
