IBM Quietwriter III 5202 Printer Hardware Maintenance and Service
The IBM Quietwriter III Printer 5202 Hardware Maintenance and Service manual, Third Edition (November 1987), is IBM's field service manual for the Quietwriter III, a letter-quality printer for the IBM Personal Computer that prints at 100 to 160 characters per second (burst) by what IBM calls "nonimpact thermal printing technology" (p. 1-1). The PDF has 264 pages.
Associated documentation named in the preface: the Quietwriter III Printer 5202 Guide to Operations (S544-4082, P/N 1319571), the Technical Reference (S544-4083, P/N 1319601), the Sheetfeed Option Guide to Operations (S544-4122, P/N 1318499) and the Sheetfeed Hardware Maintenance and Service (SY20-8580, P/N 6373116).

Figures a repairer can use
edit- Power supply output connector (MAP step 032, p. 3-26): pin 1 ground, pin 2 -12 V, pin 3 ground, pins 4 and 5 +38 V motor supply, pins 6 to 9 ground, pins 10 to 13 +5 V logic supply. The same MAP also checks 30 V and -5 V.
- Lubrication (p. 8-2): IBM No. 10 oil on the carrier pivots, pinch roller shaft, capstan/clutch pulley bearing and idler pulley; IBM No. 23 grease on the load lever cam and link and the paper bail and release lever points. - Special tools (p. 1-8): IBM part numbers for the scales, feeler gauge, splined wrenches, spring hook, T-bender, an analog VOM (Triplett 310C or equivalent, P/N 9900167), wrap plug 1341046 and ESD kit.
What this manual does not contain
editIt works to FRU level: the printer board, carrier board and power supply are replaced as units, and there is no circuit schematic or component value. The Chapter 6 wiring diagram shows the interconnections between assemblies only. The sheet feeder has its own maintenance manual.
