The RTC Wiki Editing Tools are a suite of gadgets designed to speed up article creation on the RetroTechCollection Wiki.

Available Tools

Infobox Generator

Access: Special:BlankPage/InfoboxGenerator or via the toolbar button when editing an article.

A form-based tool for generating infobox wikitext. Supports both Computer and Peripheral/Accessory infobox types.

Features:

  • Form fields for all infobox parameters
  • Auto-linking for predecessor/successor fields
  • Correct image formatting (File: prefix, sizing)
  • Live preview via the wiki's parser
  • Copy to clipboard
  • Direct insertion into the editor

Spec Sheet Importer

Access: Special:BlankPage/SpecImporter

Imports technical specifications from EveryMac.com and maps them to RTC Wiki infobox fields.

Features:

  • Search EveryMac by model name
  • Quick-select dropdown for common Macintosh models
  • Full spec display with editable infobox field mapping
  • Side-by-side view: mapped fields + raw EveryMac data for reference
  • Generate infobox wikitext directly or fill the Infobox Generator form
  • Server-side caching (24 hours) to reduce EveryMac requests

Supported data mapping:

  • Release/discontinuation dates
  • CPU (processor type + speed)
  • Memory (standard + maximum)
  • Storage (HDD, floppy, optical)
  • Display (built-in + resolution)
  • Sound capabilities
  • Dimensions and weight
  • OS support range
  • Pricing
  • Model numbers
  • Case type → infobox type mapping

How to Enable

Both tools are enabled by default. You can manage them in Preferences → Gadgets under "Editing tools".

When enabled, both tools add links to the sidebar under "Tools":

  • Infobox Generator
  • Spec Importer

Workflow

A typical workflow for creating a new article:

  1. Open the Spec Importer (Special:BlankPage/SpecImporter)
  2. Search for the model (e.g. "Macintosh IIsi")
  3. Review and edit the imported specs
  4. Click "Generate Infobox Wikitext" — the wikitext is copied to clipboard
  5. Create the new article and paste the infobox at the top
  6. Continue writing the article using the style guides
