Service notes from the manual

[edit | edit source]
  • The video board and main deflection board cannot be separated without risk of damaging the CRT connector, so Apple treats them as one module. When they are out of the bezel, do not let their weight rest on the brightness and contrast knobs, which protrude about an inch past the main bracket. Connectors P302, P702 and P703 are hard to remove: release their tabs with a small flat-blade screwdriver first.[3]
  • Apple specifies its own high-voltage probe, part 076-0392, and a 246 or L-248 light meter (or a colour analyser or photometer) for adjustments; its readings assume those instruments.[3]
  • High voltage: with the rear housing and EMI shield off and the display running, the Apple probe under the anode connector should read 25 V DC on the meter, which is 25 kV. Do not remove the probe until the power is off.[4]
  • The front indicator light goes out 10 seconds after adjusting stops, by design.[5]
  • Whenever the display is taken apart, reset the degaussing coils: at least 50 mm from the CRT corner screws at the top, their overlap taped together, and 30 mm from the canceling coil on the yoke at the bottom.[6]
