Section page numbers as printed, with the PDF page where each section starts.[1]

  • Section 1, Basics (PDF p. 3): configuration requirements, DIP switch settings (1.3), paper requirements and main logic board connector functions (1.5), printer self-test and loopback test (1.6), disabling the cover interlock switch (1.7)

What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • The Scribe's maintenance intervals, which come from the manufacturer: yearly for the user, and yearly or every 500,000 lines of print for the dealer, with Tellus oil #46 (970-0006) as the lubricant (p. 5.3).[1]
  • The adjustment figures: drive belt 1/4 to 1/2 lb (175 g ±25 g) at 10 mm deflection, print head gap 3.5 mm ±0.5 mm (pp. 3.3-3.7).[1]
  • The SELECT lamp error codes and their causes (pp. 4.6-4.8).[1]
  • The service part numbers of the logic board (661-75217), mechanism (661-75218), print head (076-0090), transformers, fuses and cables (section 6).[1]

What it does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • Pages 5.4 and 5.5 are missing from this scan. They hold the first seven steps of the routine cleaning and lubrication (removing the printer assembly, tractor and platen, cleaning the platen, cleaning and oiling the carriage shaft, cleaning the paper-out sensor). The same pages survive in Apple's 1987 Apple Service Technical Procedures, Volume Two binder on archive.org (item apple-service-technical-procedures-volume-two).[1][2]
  • There is no schematic, no voltage or test-point table and no component values. The full DIP switch table is in the Scribe User's Manual, Appendix B, which is not part of this file.[1]
  • The main logic board connector diagram on p. 1.5 is printed upside down in the scan, and its OCR text is unreadable.
