Macintosh Performa 6200
The Macintosh Performa 6200 is a PowerPC-based desktop computer introduced by Apple Computer on July 11, 1995. It is the non-CD-ROM variant of the Performa 6200CD, sharing the same logic board and case design but without the CD-ROM drive.

Differences from Performa 6200CD
editThe Performa 6200 differs from the Performa 6200CD only in the absence of the CD-ROM drive, offering a lower-cost entry point for consumers who did not require optical media.

The 1 MB video frame buffer is separate DRAM on the logic board, not a slice of system RAM. Apple's specification reads "DRAM Frame Buffer: 1 MB DRAM on board, for video support".[1] Fitting more system memory does not change the available video memory, and the machine does not lose 1 MB of its 8 MB to video.

A "Version B" board shows a B at the end of the serial number printed near the communications port. Apple's diagnostic application for the programme was 5XXX/6XXX Tester, shipped on the Service Source Companion CD; it tests for the freeze-related component issues but not for colour-hue faults.[1]
Apple also directs Type 11 errors away from this programme and towards a clean system install or a third-party software update.[1]
