Apple Multiple Scan 20 Service Source
Appearance
The Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display volume of Apple's Service Source is a 122-page service manual covering the Multiple Scan 20, a 20-inch Trinitron colour display, and its Rev. B version. The PDF was distilled on 21 December 1995.[1]

Rev. B
[edit | edit source]The two versions look the same. Apple identifies the Rev. B by the last three characters of the serial number: 5B4, 5J2, 5JE or 5JF. The Rev. B has the 0.26 mm stripe pitch and needs Rev. B parts for the main deflection board, the microprocessor controller board and the power supply.[3]
Service notes from the manual
[edit | edit source]- Apple's Basics chapter warns that large screens are easily distorted by their surroundings: metal furniture, fluorescent lights, other monitors and appliances. Move or swivel the display, or check it in another building, before adjusting or exchanging it; exchanging the monitor cannot cure environmental distortion.[4]
- As on the Multiple Scan 17, the display's adjustment data is held in an EEPROM on the microprocessor board. Save it with the MacTest Pro Display Setting Restore Utility before replacing that board and write it back afterwards.[5]
- The fuse is on the power supply. Apple's replacement note says only to fit a fuse of the same current and voltage rating; the rating itself is not printed. Do not wear a wrist strap until the CRT has been discharged.[6]
