IBM PC Server Hardware Maintenance Manual

This page and IBM PC Server HMM (S30H-2501) hold the same document. The two uploaded files are byte-identical — same size, same SHA-1 — and both are the IBM PC Servers Hardware Maintenance Manual, S30H-2501-01, Second Edition (March 1996), 557 pages. Neither is a different edition or a different book; one is simply a second upload under a vaguer name.

Prefer IBM PC Server HMM (S30H-2501) when citing, because its title carries the form number. This page is kept so that existing links and searches for the plainer title still reach the manual.

IBM describes the book as a supplement to be used with the IBM Personal System/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual (part number 83G8990, form number S52G-9971), which is hosted here as IBM Personal System 2 Hardware Maintenance Manual (S52G-9971-02, October 1994).

What it contains

It covers the PC Server 300 (Type 8640), 310 (8639), 320 (8640), 500 (8641), 500 System/390 (8641), 520 (8641) and 720 (8642), together with the SCSI Multi-Storage Enclosure (Type 3517) and the Enterprise Expansion Enclosure (Type 3518).

  • General Checkout / Diagnostics (QAPlus/PRO) (3–5) — the diagnostic package these servers were serviced with.
  • PC Server 300, Type 8640 (15) — features, diagnostics and test information, additional service information, Locations for the 486DX2 system board (25) and the Pentium system board (29) separately, the symptom-to-FRU index (32) and the parts listing (47).
  • PC Server 310, Type 8639 (53) — features, diagnostics, additional service information (67), locations (89), a symptom-to-FRU index supplement (95) and parts listings (119).
  • PC Server 320, Type 8640 (127) — features, diagnostics, additional service information, locations (155), symptom-to-FRU index (164) and parts.
  • PC Server 500, Type 8641 (177) — including locations for the system board (208) and parts listing (218).

  • PC Server 520, Type 8641 (243) — with locations given per model group: models EZO, EZV, EZL, EZS and EZE (294) and models MZO, MZV, MZS, MZE and MZL (301).
  • PC Server 720, Type 8642 (325) — with locations (370) and parts listing (399).
  • SCSI Multi-Storage Enclosure Type 3517 and Enterprise Expansion Enclosure Type 3518 (locations at 412 and 434).
  • PC Server Flash / Diagnostics / CMOS Access procedures, and safety information (456).

What it does not contain

Module level throughout: FRU part numbers, not component values; no schematics; no capacitor or resistor data. It is also a supplement rather than a standalone manual — the general checkout, safety and common procedures are in the PS/2 Hardware Maintenance Manual.
