IBM PS2 N45 SL Hardware Maintenance Reference
The IBM PS/note Model N45SL Hardware Maintenance Reference is IBM's service pamphlet for the PS/note N45SL notebook (type 2614), which IBM's introduction describes as a Personal Computer AT-compatible notebook computer. The cover gives the date 15 May 1992, part number 42G0485 and form number S42G-0485-00; the edition notice says First Edition (June 1992). The PDF has 77 pages and is an image-only scan with no text layer; PDF pages 1 and 4 are both the cover, and several pages are blank.
The cover states that the pamphlet "is intended to be used with" the IBM Personal System/2 Hardware Maintenance Reference (part number 15F2190, form number S15F-2190-00) and the Hardware Maintenance Service manual (part number 15F2200, form number S15F-2200-00). Chapter 1 also lists a separate N45SL Hardware Maintenance Service manual, the Guide to Operations and the Advanced Diagnostics diskette as related material.

Figures a repairer can use
[edit | edit source]- AC adapter (S-1): input 90-264 V AC at 48-62 Hz; output 22 V DC ±10 % at 1.27 A; five-pin connector (1 charge voltage, 2 system voltage, 3 charge control, 4 and 5 ground).
- Internal DC conversion (S-1): +5 V ±5 % at 2.00 A, -10 V ±20 % at 0.05 A, -18 V ±2 V at 0.03 A, and 300 V AC ±100 V at 30 kHz (5 W maximum).
- Battery pack (S-2): 14.4 V, 1.7 Ah, 24.48 Wh, with overcharge and short-circuit protection; initial charge 10 hours, normal recharge 3 hours; charge current fast 1.27 A, normal 0.27 A, trickle 0.08 A.
- Backup battery (S-2): a 4.8 V NiCad pack (0.6 Ah, 2.88 Wh) that keeps the real-time clock and CMOS memory alive and powers the machine in rest mode. Removing it (procedure on p. 3-19) deletes the stored configuration.
- Processor (S-4): Intel 80386SL at 25 MHz, or 6.25 MHz in slow mode; optional 80387SX or 80387SL.
- Clearing the passwords (p. 3-3): with the battery pack out, bridge the two pins on each side of the math coprocessor socket with a clip lead, refit the pack and power on until the LEDs blink and the machine locks (under 20 seconds), then remove the jumper and cold-reset by holding the lid switch and pressing the power button.
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]There is no Symptom-to-FRU index and no parts list with FRU numbers; those were in the separate N45SL Hardware Maintenance Service manual. There is no schematic and no component value. The N45SL is also covered by IBM Mobile Systems Hardware Maintenance Manual Volume 1 (1995).
