The IBM Personal System/2 XGA Adapter Interface Technical Reference, September 1990, is IBM's 173-page programming reference for the XGA Adapter Interface — the device-driver level API that applications use to drive XGA hardware.

What it contains

  • Chapter 1, XGA (1-1) — what the hardware provides.
  • Chapter 2, Adapter Interface Functions (2-1).
  • Chapter 3, The Base Function Set (3-1) — the functions every XGA implementation provides.
  • Chapter 4, The Extended Function Sets (4-1).
  • Appendix A, Display Adapter 8514/A Compatibility (A-1) — what carries over from the 8514/A and what does not.
  • Appendix B, Default Palettes (B-1) and Appendix C, Font File Format (C-1).

What it does not contain

A software interface reference. No register-level hardware description (that is in the Video Subsystems volume), no board data, no FRUs, no component values and no schematics.
