Laserwriter Printers Service Guide Volume Ii September 1993
The Apple Service Guide for LaserWriter Printers, Volume 2 is Apple's September 1993 field-service booklet for the LaserWriter Pro 600/630, LaserWriter Select 300/310 and Personal LaserWriter 300. Apple wrote it for certified technicians working at the customer's site, and it condenses material from the Service Source CD and other service publications.[1] Its part number is 072-0632. The scan has 185 pages; the guide is numbered to p. 177.[2]

What it settles
[edit | edit source]The parts lists are alphabetical and give Apple part numbers, for example 661-0807 for the Pro 600/630 DC controller board and 661-0029 (120 V) and 661-0028 (240 V) for the Personal LaserWriter 300 controller assembly.[3] Apple says to check any part number against the current AppleOrder system, AppleLink or the Apple Service Price Pages before ordering, because the guide is not updated regularly.[1]
The General Information tab gives pin-by-pin signal tables for each printer's ports. The Pro 600/630 RS-422 port is a mini DIN-8 (1 HSKo, 2 HSKi, 3 TxD−, 4 GND, 5 RxD−, 6 TxD+, 7 GPi, 8 RxD+); its RS-232 port needs only pins 2, 3 and 5. The switch-settings table lists the port and mode (PostScript or HP PCL 4) for each Pro 600/630 switch position.[4]
The Personal LaserWriter 300 section has two adjustments. The mirror must be readjusted after the mirror or the laser/scanner assembly is replaced, using the scale on the mirror assembly and a service test page. Registration must be adjusted whenever the controller assembly is replaced; the optimum leading-edge distance is 2 mm.[5]
The safety section says to unplug the printer before servicing and to leave it switched off for at least 5 minutes before working on the fuser.[6]
What this guide does not contain
[edit | edit source]There are no schematics and no component values. The wiring diagrams show connectors and cable runs between assemblies. The parts lists cover the modules and spares Apple sold for service, not every component.[2]
