The hardware list is on pp. 1-2 to 1-3: an SE/30, any Macintosh II model (the original II with a PMMU, the IIsi with an FPU) or a Quadra; at least 8 MB of RAM; a SCSI hard disk of at least 80 MB, 160 MB recommended; and a SCSI CD-ROM drive. The A/UX Installer Startup and Read Me disks come as 800K versions for the SE/30 and II family and 1.4 MB versions for the Quadras.[1] Appendix A lists each installation package and what it contains, from Core A/UX System to MacX. Appendix C explains the installer's error messages (wrong startup disk, no PMMU, no FPU, too little memory, CD not found, invalid partition map, file system mount error) and problems on first startup.[1]
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]It covers A/UX 3.0 only and does not list the later models that 3.0.1 and 3.1 added. It has no hardware service information. The Centris models and the restriction on 68LC040 Quadra 610s are in Apple's Tech Info Library article 14662, not in the installation guide.[2]
