AppleCD SC Documentation

From RetroTechCollection

Apple documentation for the AppleCD SC and AppleCD SC Plus external CD-ROM drives, other than the Service Source: the two data sheets, the 1991 SC Plus owner's guide and a 1988 dealer note. Apple's module-level service manual for both drives is described on AppleCD SC/SC Plus Service Source.

AppleCD SC data sheet (1989)

[edit | edit source]

Apple's four-page data sheet for the AppleCD SC, document A7F0081/A, dated April 1989. Page 1 is an overview with a product photograph; page 2 lists features (front-loading slot, 64K RAM buffer, High Sierra, AppleShare server support, caddy, universal power supply, CD Remote, two RCA jacks, headphone jack); page 3 gives system requirements and technical specifications; page 4 is ordering information, with the drive as M2700/A and order numbers for the caddy box of five (M2705), the SCSI system cable (M0206), peripheral interface cable (M0207), cable extender (M0208), terminator (M0209) and the Apple II SCSI Interface Card with Rev. C ROMs (A2B2087).[1] The overview says a disc holds "over 550 megabytes"; the specification on page 3 gives 656 MB in Mode 1 and 748 MB in Mode 2.[1]

AppleCD SC Plus data sheet (1991)

[edit | edit source]

The four-page SC Plus data sheet, document A7F0081/B, dated June 1991, follows the same layout. It adds ISO 9660, gives the order number as M2700LL/C, lists the Apple IIe and IIGS (not the II Plus) as Apple II hosts and adds the Apple II High Speed SCSI Card (A0220LL/A) and the terminator M0332LL/A to the related products.[2]

AppleCD SC Enhancements (1988)

[edit | edit source]

A one-page Apple dealer note announcing that from September (1988) the AppleCD SC accessory kit included ISO 9660/High Sierra software for the Macintosh and Apple IIGS and the Apple CD-ROM Explorer disc. Owners of earlier drives could claim the upgrade free with the coupon from the early kits, or download it from AppleLink, until the end of 1988.[4]
