Apple Macintosh Service Guide Volume 1 1990

The Apple Service Guide for Macintosh Computers, 1990, 142 pages. Apple's first release in the Service Guide series: a pocket booklet for certified technicians working at a customer's site, written by the Service Technical Publications Department (lead writer David Thoms, writer Kathy Smith).

Apple is explicit about its scope in the introduction: the Service Guide does not replace the Apple Service Technical Procedures. It takes pieces of information from the Technical Procedures and other service publications and presents them in a form that is easy to carry.

For repair work on compact Macintoshes this is one of the most immediately useful documents on the wiki, because each machine's tab contains a parts list and the power/sweep voltage adjustment on a single opening.

An introductory section on safety practices and procedures, then seven tab sections:

Page numbering restarts in each tab, so cite the tab and the page.

The Macintosh SE SIMM error codes are worth flagging: they are Apple's own table, and they belong with the Sad Mac decoding work on this wiki rather than being re-derived.

What this guide does not contain

No schematics and no component values. The parts lists are Apple's selection of service modules and spares, not a bill of materials. There is no analogue-board capacitor table for any compact Macintosh in this guide, and no such table should be attributed to it.
