Apple Modems Documentation
Two Apple service documents cover Apple's external modems of 1984 to 1992: the Modems tab of the Apple Service Technical Procedures and the Modems chapter of Service Source.
Apple Service Technical Procedures: Modems (1991)
[edit | edit source]The Modems tab of Apple Service Technical Procedures: Cross Family Peripherals, Volume One (Apple part number 072-0230, a March 1991 build with an April 1991 document control sheet) is Apple's dealer service manual for its 300/1200 modems, the Apple Personal Modem and the Apple Data Modem 2400. Pages carry revision dates from January 1984 to March 1991. The hosted file is a 60-page extract: the document control sheet and title page of the volume, followed by the whole Modems tab (PDF pages 3-60). The rest of the volume (You Oughta Know, disk drives, SCSI hard disks, tape backup) is not included.

The tab is module-level. It has no schematics and no component values. Section 1 tests the 300/1200 modems from an Apple II or III and refers Macintosh and Lisa users to the modem manual.

Service Source: Modems (1995)
[edit | edit source]Service Source: Modems is the 29-page modems chapter of Apple's Service Source, taken from the Service Source 2.5 CD of 1997. The PDF was made in November 1995.

- Troubleshooting: general notes (p. 1) and symptom charts for the Apple Data Modem 2400 (p. 2), Apple Personal Modem (p. 3), Modem 300/Modem 1200 (p. 4) and AppleFax Modem (pp. 5-7).
- Exploded View: an index page naming the four modems. The exploded drawings themselves are not in this file.
The chapter has no specifications, parts numbers or diagnostics, so the 1991 Technical Procedures above are the fuller source for the 300/1200, Personal Modem and Data Modem 2400. It is the only one of the two that covers the AppleFax Modem.
