Apple Scanner Documentation
Apple's service documentation for the Apple Scanner and the Apple OneScanner: the 1991 Technical Procedures and the Service Source chapter from the 1996 Service Source CD. Both treat the two scanners together, calling the Apple Scanner the 4-bit scanner and the OneScanner the 8-bit scanner.
Apple Scanner Technical Procedures (1991)
[edit | edit source]Apple Scanner Technical Procedures is Apple's dealer service manual for the two scanners, revision dated October 1991, copyright 1988-1991. The hosted file is a 90-page scan from the bitsavers collection with a text layer added by Acrobat Paper Capture.
Contents
[edit | edit source]Page numbers are the printed section pages, with the PDF page in brackets.
- Section 1, Basics: product description and major assemblies (1.2-1.4, PDF 6-8, with the exploded view Figure 1-1); specifications (1.5-1.6, PDF 9-10); theory of operation with block diagrams of the scanner, the power circuit, the carrier motor drive, the CCD board and the main logic board (1.7-1.12, PDF 11-16); preventive maintenance, cleaning the glass (1.13, PDF 17)
- Section 2, Take-Apart: lid, case top, scanning carrier and optical block with the drive belt, inverter, carrier motor, transformer, power supply board, AC switch plate and plug, main logic board (2.1-2.29, PDF 19-47)
- Section 3, Diagnostics: ScanTest 4.4 for the 4-bit scanner and Scan8Test for the 8-bit scanner, the Apple Scanner Service Test Chart, test descriptions and procedure (3.1-3.12, PDF 49-60)
- Section 4, Troubleshooting: the built-in self-test and the symptom/cure chart (4.1-4.4, PDF 61-64)
- Section 5, Additional Procedures: power supply fuses, main logic board fuse, voltage selection, bulb replacement, 110 V to universal voltage conversion, main logic board modification (5.1-5.11, PDF 65-75)
- Illustrated Parts List: hardware kit, parts location, cover, carrier and optical assemblies, cables, power supplies and logic boards (PDF 76-90)
What this manual does not contain
[edit | edit source]No schematics and no component values. The block diagrams name ICs and connectors (IC1, IC5, IC16, IC20, CN1-CN9) but the manual does not give a component-level parts list for any board. Diagnostics need the ScanTest or Scan8Test disk and Apple's printed test chart, neither of which is in the scan.
