The Macintosh Office Technical Procedures, Apple part number 072-0163. Despite the name, the technical content of this manual is the Apple LaserWriter Printer Technical Procedures and the LaserWriter Plus Technical Procedures - "The Macintosh Office" was Apple's 1985 name for the Macintosh, LaserWriter and AppleTalk bundle, and this is the Level 1 service manual for the printer in it.

It is not a module-exchange document. It is one of the deepest Apple service manuals on this wiki, and it predates Service Source by a decade.

For LaserWriter Plus kit installation, diagnostics and troubleshooting, Apple directs the reader to the separate LaserWriter Plus tab within the same manual.

Two things to take from it:

  • There is an Illustrated Parts List (Section 6). That is a real parts list with Apple numbers, and it is not present in the Service Source LaserWriter volumes.
  • Apple's own instruction is that the Service Technician Maintenance procedure is performed in full every time the printer is serviced - a published maintenance rule, unlike the invented "every N years" intervals that circulate for vintage hardware.

What this manual does not contain

No circuit schematic and no component values. The parts list is an illustrated assembly and spares list. Apple notes that part numbers for the adjustments are in the Apple Service Programs Manual price pages rather than here, so numbers quoted from this document may be superseded. The manual repeatedly refers to videotapes that accompanied it; those are not part of this PDF.

This copy is the April 1985 revision, 416 pages, with "Copyright 1985 by Apple Computer, Inc. Revision: April 1985" on its title page. It is the earliest of the three copies of this manual on this wiki; the other two are March 1986 revisions:
