How to Categorise Articles on the RTC Wiki

Categories help organise the wiki so editors and readers can find related content. Every article should have at least one category.

Adding a Category

[edit source]

Add categories at the bottom of an article, one per line:

[[Category:Apple Vintage Computers]]
[[Category:Compact Macintosh]]

Finding the Right Category

[edit source]

Browse Special:Categories to see all existing categories. Common top-level categories include:

Category For
Category:Apple Vintage Computers All Apple/Macintosh hardware articles
Category:Nintendo Nintendo consoles and handhelds
Category:Sega Sega consoles and handhelds
Category:Vintage Computers Non-Apple vintage computers
Category:Service Manuals Downloadable service documentation
Category:Schematics Board-level circuit diagrams

Creating a New Category

[edit source]

If you need a category that doesn't exist:

  1. Add the category tag to your article: [[Category:New Category Name]]
  2. The category will appear as a red link โ€” click it to create the category page
  3. Add a brief description and a parent category

Category page example:

A brief description of what belongs in this category.

[[Category:Parent Category]]
  • Don't over-categorise โ€” use the most specific category that fits
  • Check existing categories first โ€” avoid creating duplicates
  • Every article needs at least one category โ€” uncategorised pages are hard to find
  • Categories are case-sensitive โ€” "Apple vintage computers" โ‰  "Apple Vintage Computers"
