IBM PS2 Micro Channel OEM Hardware Product Guide (May 1988)

The IBM Personal System/2 Micro Channel OEM Hardware Product Guide, May 1988, is a 62-page IBM-published catalogue of third-party Micro Channel adapters — "products being commercially marketed by other developers that directly attach to the PS/2 Micro Channel". The material is supplied by the developers themselves.

What it contains

A directory of Micro Channel cards by category, with a developer directory and index:

  • 16-bit and 32-bit memory products; modem products; network products; host communication products; terminal emulation products.
  • Serial port, parallel port and SCSI products.
  • Diskette, fixed disk, optical disk and tape drive products.
  • Co-processor products; debug tools; a performance product; graphics products; printer, scanner and plotter products; multi-function products.
  • Developer Directory (37) — names and addresses for the companies, which is what makes this useful thirty-odd years later when you are trying to identify an unmarked MCA card.

What it does not contain

Not technical documentation for any of the cards listed: no register maps, no ADF files, no jumper settings, no part numbers beyond the vendors' own model names, and no service information at all. IBM states plainly that the material is based on what the developers supplied.

What it settles

If you have an unidentified Micro Channel card from 1988 or earlier, this is a catalogue of what existed. It will not tell you how to configure it — for that you need the card's own ADF and option documentation.
