IBM Proprinter Guide to Operations (First Edition, April 1985)
The IBM Proprinter Guide to Operations, First Edition (April 1985), part number 6328945, is the owner's manual for the original IBM Proprinter (4201-001). The PDF has 200 pages. It is a user book; its related-publications page sends the reader to the IBM Proprinter Technical Reference for technical detail and the IBM Proprinter Hardware Maintenance and Service for service.
Its front-matter DANGER notice reads: "Serious shock hazards exist within the main cover of your printer. Do not remove this cover. For service information refer to the Proprinter Hardware Maintenance and Service."

Useful to a repairer
[edit | edit source]- Self-test (p. 2-18): hold the Line Feed key while switching on and release it when printing starts. The printer repeats a rolling character pattern until it is switched off or runs out of paper; press Online to stop it at the end of a line (p. 2-20). This tests the printer without a host.
- Light charts (section 5): Paper Out and Ready flashing alternately means a paper or ribbon jam; IBM's user steps are to remove the ribbon, look for paper dust or scraps below the forms thickness lever, and rerun the self-test.
- IBM warns (p. 2-19) that setting the forms thickness lever lower than needed can damage the print head and ribbon.

What this manual does not contain
