Macintosh LC 630 Troubleshooting

From RetroTechCollection

Troubleshooting the Macintosh LC 630 and related models (Quadra 630, Performa 630 series, LC 630 DOS Compatible) requires understanding their shared architecture. All variants use the same logic board (820-0524) with minor configuration differences. This guide covers common issues and diagnostic procedures.

Preliminary Checks and Power Supply Basics

[edit | edit source]

Before diagnosing component failures, verify:

  • Power cable securely connected
  • Power outlet functional (test with another device)
  • Power switch on rear of unit in ON position
  • Monitor connected and powered on separately
  • Keyboard and mouse connected to ADB port

Power Supply Voltages

[edit | edit source]

Measure at the logic board power connector:

  • +5V rail: 4.85V – 5.15V
  • +12V rail: 11.9V – 12.7V
  • -12V rail: Within 10% of nominal
