What it settles

[edit | edit source]
  • Processor: 68040 with PMMU, FPU and 8 KB cache; 25 MHz in the Quadra 900, 33 MHz in the Quadra 950 and AWS 95 (p. 5).
  • Memory: Quadra 900 4 MB and Quadra 950 8 MB standard, both expandable to 256 MB with 80 ns SIMMs; AWS 95 16, 32 or 48 MB of parity RAM in 9-bit SIMMs; ROM 1 MB in two 150 ns 256K × 16 chips; VRAM 1 MB, expandable to 2 MB (pp. 6–7).
  • Power: 100–240 V AC self-configuring supply, 50–60 Hz, 303 W maximum excluding the monitor (p. 14).
  • Environment: 10–40 °C operating, −40 to 47 °C storage, 20–80 % humidity, 0–3,048 m (p. 16).
  • PRAM battery: replace below 3.2 V (p. 112).
  • Error chords: a one-part chord points at the hard disk, floppy drive or logic board; a two-part chord at the SIMMs (p. 19).
  • Thermal shutdown: blocked vents can trigger the thermal protection circuit, which recovers after 30 to 40 minutes (p. 21).
  • Internal SCSI: internal hard disks must not be terminated (p. 30).
  • A Quadra 900 upgraded to a 950 with Apple's logic board kit still reports itself as a 900 until the system software is reinstalled (p. 73).

These are cited on Macintosh Quadra 950 and Macintosh Quadra 900 Troubleshooting.

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • No schematics, no component values, and no part numbers: the exploded view (p. 117) names the parts but gives no numbers.
  • No adjustments chapter and no power supply output limits.
  • No I/O Devices section in the specifications.
  • No SIMM verification procedure: the error-chord and video charts refer to Apple's separate memory manual.

Two figures in the specifications need care. The height is printed as "16.8 in. (473 mm)"; 473 mm is 18.6 in, which is the height EveryMac and Low End Mac give (p. 15). The manual lists one ADB port and an "AUI-15" Ethernet connector (pp. 10, 12), where Low End Mac gives two ADB ports and AAUI-15.
