Schneider PC 2640 Service Manual

From RetroTechCollection

The Kundendienst-Handbuch / Service Manual, Personal Computer PC 2640 (Ident-Nr. 36523) is a Schneider service manual, not an Amstrad one. The PC 2640 was an IBM PC AT-compatible machine that the Schneider Computer Division showed at the Systems fair in Munich in October 1987; unlike the Amstrad-designed PC 1512 and PC 1640 that Schneider had sold, it was Schneider's own design.[1] The manual has 42 pages in German with English column headings, and a machine-read text layer.

What it covers

[edit | edit source]

The parts lists give Schneider order numbers, descriptions, circuit references and price groups, in German and English. The CPU board list (p. 9) names an 80286-12 at U63, a Chips and Technologies chipset (82C201, 82C202, 82A203, 82A204, 82A205 and 82C206), an 80C42C keyboard controller at U32, 41256 and 4164 DRAMs, two 27128 EPROMs at U44 and U45, 12, 20 and 25 MHz oscillators, 32.768 kHz and 14.318 MHz crystals, and a 3.6 V battery. The Multi I/O board list (p. 20) shows a Western Digital hard disc controller chip set (WD10C21, WD1015, WD5011, WD11C00) and a PEGA1A video chip. Pages 39 and 40 give the factory jumper and switch settings, and page 42 asks for the complete system unit or the complete board set (CPU, Multi I/O, slot) to be sent in for service.
