VT100 Documentation describes the Digital Equipment Corporation documents for the VT100 video terminal, with the PDF of each.

VT100 Series Video Terminal Technical Manual (EK-VT100-TM-003)

DEC's service and technical manual, order number EK-VT100-TM-003, third edition, July 1982 (first edition August 1979, second September 1980). The scan has 454 pages and a text layer. It covers the VT100 and the series built on it: the VT100 word processing models, the VT105, VT125 and VT132, and the options.[1]

Contents: 1 introduction and specifications (pp. 1-2 to 1-3); 2 operator information; 3 installation and interface information, with user maintenance on p. 3-3; 4 technical description: microprocessor, video processor, nonvolatile RAM (4.5), the Elston 30-16080 and Ball 30-14590 monitors (4.8) and the power supply with its specifications (4.9, pp. 4-107 to 4-115); 5 service: troubleshooting tables and self-test error codes (5.2), video alignment for both monitors (5.3, pp. 5-24 to 5-34), module removal and replacement including CRT discharge (5.4), board configurations (5.5) and component-level troubleshooting of the controller, keyboard, power supply and monitor (5.6, pp. 5-73 to 5-78); 6 options; 7 standard terminal port; 8 graphics connector; appendices A programming, B recommended spares list, C glossary, D ANSI code extension.[1]

It has no schematics or parts lists; for those, use the print set below.[1]

VT100 User Guide (EK-VT100-UG-002)

The operator's and programmer's guide, order number EK-VT100-UG-002, second edition, January 1979. 82 pages.[2]

Contents: 1 operator information (keyboard, SET-UP features, user maintenance); 2 installation, interface information and specifications; 3 programmer section (ANSI and VT52-mode control sequences); 4 VT100 options; appendices on the 7-bit ASCII code and fill character requirements.[2] It has no service information. VT100 Mini Maintenance Hardware Guide (EK-VT100-J1-001)

A 28-page pocket guide for field engineers, order number EK-VT100-J1-001, first edition, September 1978.[3]

Contents: 1 troubleshooting with the self-test, the basic terminal and the options, and the recommended spares list (p. 1-10); 2 SET-UP summary; 3 self-tests and use of the PMK04 tester; 5 removal and replacement, including the video monitor board, flyback transformer, power supply, DC power harness and the field service CRT monitor; 6 options; 7 the interconnection diagram (p. 7-3), which gives the part numbers of the main assemblies and the voltage on every pin of the power supply, controller, monitor and keyboard connectors.[3]

It predates the Elston monitor; the diagram shows the Ball monitor board 30-14590-02.[3]

VT100 Illustrated Parts Breakdown (EK-VT100-IP-004)

Fourth printing, dated 8 December 1980 at ECO level 00000-00038, 21 pages. Exploded views with DEC part numbers for the CRT chassis, the power supply assembly 70-14979 (H7831 module 54-12996, fuse 90-07217), the 30-16080 monitor assemblies with P4 and P40 phosphor, the keyboard and the covers.[4] It lists assemblies and mechanical parts only, not board components.

VT100 Field Maintenance Print Set (MP00633)

DEC's print set, order number MP00633, with contents sheet VT100-0-1 at revision D (February 1982). 64 pages, no text layer.[5]

Contents (from the contents sheet): unit assembly and parts list; basic video board 5413009 (assembly, parts list, circuit schematic); H7831 power supply board 5412996 (assembly, parts list sheets A1 to A3 on PDF pp. 23, 26 and 24, schematic on p. 25); power supply assembly 7014979; keyboard 5413404 and keycaps; power cable; CRT monitor 3014590 schematic; 20 mA current loop option; advanced video board 5413097; shipping list; word processing installation notes; and the VT100 monitor 5414131 (parts list on pp. 55 to 57, schematic on p. 58).[5]

The Ball monitor appears only as a schematic, with no parts list. The 30-16080 Elston monitor is not in this set.[5]

Bitsavers also holds the second edition of the technical manual (EK-VT100-TM-002, September 1980), the first edition of the user guide (EK-VT100-UG-001), two earlier scans of MP00633, and Randy Hick's monitor fault notes and notes on the Elston monitor as text files.[6] VT100.net has HTML versions of the user guide and the technical manual, and lists the VT101 Pocket Service Guide (EK-VT101-PS) and Hot Line Troubleshooting Card (EK-101HL-RC) without copies.[7]
