VT220 Documentation describes the Digital Equipment Corporation documents for the VT220 video terminal and its LK201 keyboard, with the PDF of each.
VT220 Pocket Service Guide (EK-VT220-PS-003)
[edit | edit source]DEC's field service guide, order number EK-VT220-PS-003, third edition, August 1986 (first edition August 1983, second August 1984). The scan, from VT100.net, has 88 pages and no text layer; printed page numbers run about twelve behind the PDF page numbers.[1]
Contents: introduction with model identification (p. ix) and tools (p. x); 1 testing and troubleshooting: self-test chart (Table 1-1, p. 2), screen alignment test (1.8, p. 9), VT22X modem tests, printer problems, screen error codes (Table 1-2, p. 15), LED error codes (Table 1-3, p. 16) and the troubleshooting chart (Table 1-4, pp. 17 to 19); 2 removal and replacement for models A, B and C, including the power supply/monitor board (2.4), the flyback transformer with anode discharge (2.5) and the recommended spares (Table 2-1, p. 43); 3 the same for models D, E and F, with their spares list (Table 3-1, p. 56); 4 video monitor alignment (pp. 57 to 64); 5 set-up; appendices on documentation, exploded views, cables and physical/functional diagrams.[1]
It works at the level of replaceable units and has no component data.[1]

VT220 Technical Manual (EK-VT220-TM-001)
[edit | edit source]The circuit description, order number EK-VT220-TM-001, first edition, November 1984, 226 pages with a text layer. It covers models A, B and C; the service guide says an addendum covered models D, E and F.[2][1]
Contents: 1 system introduction; 2 controls, indicators and connectors; 3 system overview; 4 CPU logic (8051); 5 system communication logic (2681 DUART); 6 video logic; 7 the LK201 keyboard, with its self-test and specifications; 8 monitor circuits (video amplifier, horizontal and vertical deflection, flyback transformer, dynamic focus, brightness); 9 the power supply, based on board 5415651 revision A; appendices A specifications, B VT102 differences, C register bit values.[2]
It has no troubleshooting, alignment or removal procedures and no parts lists.[2]

VT220 Owner's Manual (EK-VT220-UG-003)

Chapters: 1 a look at the terminal; 2 controls, indicators and connectors; 3 operating procedures; 4 set-up; 5 communication; 6 problem solving (operating problems and the power-up self-test); appendices A specifications, B options, documentation and supplies, C keyboards.[3]

VT220 Installation Guide (EK-VT220-IN-002)
[edit | edit source]Second edition, August 1984, 24 pages: unpacking, checking the voltage selection switch (p. 5), connecting the keyboard and cables, and the first power-up.[4]

VT220 Field Maintenance Print Set (MP-01732-01)
[edit | edit source]DEC's print set, order number MP-01732-01, copyright 1983, 30 pages. It holds the drawings and parts lists for the VT220 models A to C, including the parts list of the power supply and monitor board 5415651 revision A on sheets A1 to A4 (PDF pp. 21 to 24).[5] The scan has an OCR text layer that is unreliable for values; read the page images.

LK201 keyboard print set (MP01395)

Other documents
[edit | edit source]DEC's service guide lists a VT220 Video Terminal IPB (EK-VT220-IP) with part numbers for the replaceable units, the VT220 Programmer Reference Manual (EK-VT220-RM) and Programmer Pocket Guide, and the VT22X modem user guide.[1] VT100.net has the Programmer Reference Manual in HTML.[7] Bitsavers also holds a separate VT220 schematic scan (August 1983) and engineering drawings for the VT220 touch screen and the VT220CR.[8]
