Editing Help:Categories (section)

Finding the right category
Browse Special:Categories to see every category. Check that a category exists before you use it: several plausible names do not.

Platform categories
Every page about a machine goes in its platform category.

<templatestyles src="Template:StyledTable/styles.css" />
Category !! For
:Category:Apple Vintage Computers || Apple II, Macintosh, Lisa and other Apple hardware
:Category:Atari Systems || Atari computers and consoles
:Category:Commodore Systems || Commodore computers
:Category:Acorn Computers || Acorn machines; BBC Micro pages also use :Category:BBC Micro
:Category:Sinclair Computers || Sinclair computers
:Category:Amstrad || Amstrad computers
:Category:IBM || IBM personal computers and workstations
:Category:Psion || Psion organisers and handhelds
:Category:Sega Systems || Sega consoles and handhelds
:Category:Nintendo || Nintendo consoles and handhelds

The platform categories sit inside :Category:Vintage Computers. Some platforms also have narrower categories; the platform category page lists them. Apple machines, including the Lisa and every Macintosh family, go in :Category:Apple Vintage Computers; there are no per-family Macintosh categories.

Guide categories
Repair guides also go in a guide-type category as well as the platform category:

Page type !! Category
General maintenance || :Category:Maintenance Guides; Apple pages also :Category:Apple Maintenance Guides
Troubleshooting || :Category:Troubleshooting Guides; Apple pages also :Category:Apple Troubleshooting Guides
Capacitor replacement || :Category:Capacitor Replacement Guides
Other repair procedures || :Category:Repair Guides

Documentation categories
Service manuals go in the manufacturer's own category, such as :Category:Apple Service Source, :Category:Atari Service Manuals, :Category:Commodore Technical Manuals, :Category:IBM Service Manuals, :Category:Acorn Service Manuals, :Category:Amstrad Service Manuals, :Category:Sega Service Manuals or :Category:Nintendo Service Manuals. Use the top-level :Category:Service Manuals only for documents that cover more than one manufacturer.

Categories not to use
Do not add pages to a category whose page carries a deletion notice. The categories below were created in error and have been deleted; do not recreate them.
