The Amstrad DDI-1 User Instructions file is a retyped PDF edition of Amstrad's owner's manual for the Amstrad DDI-1 disc drive and interface, Β© 1984 AMSOFT and Amstrad Consumer Electronics plc. Its first page says the text was scanned and OCRed from the original, may contain errors that were not in the original, and is distributed with Amstrad plc's permission on the Unofficial Amstrad WWW Resource. It has 103 pages and a text layer. The original page layout is not reproduced and most figures are reduced to their captions. == Contents == The manual's own contents list: * Foundation course: F1 Setting up, F2 About discs, F3 Loading software and games, F4 Introducing AMSDOS and CP/M * Chapter 1, Making working discs: backups, system and utility discs, BASIC-only discs, turnkey discs, configuring discs * Chapter 2, AMSDOS primer: directory, filenames and filetypes, headers and wild cards, command reference, copying files, AMSDOS error messages (2.7) * Chapter 3, CP/M primer: system tracks, configuration sector, console control codes, direct and transient commands, file and disc copying, disc generation * Chapter 4, Introduction to LOGO: Dr LOGO primitives by group * Chapter 5 (numbered 4 in the contents list), technical information: headers, store requirements, AMSDOS and BIOS error messages (5.4), disc organisation (5.5), jump block interception, intercepted firmware calls * Appendices: glossary, end user program licence agreement, index == What it settles == The setting-up section (F1) gives the mains and fusing instructions (220β240 V 50 Hz, a 3 A fuse in a 13 A plug), the order of connection (interface into the edge connector marked FLOPPY DISC, drive A on the end of the ribbon cable, the second connector for an FD-1), the rule to switch the drive on before the computer, and the placing advice: at least 20 cm from the monitor, away from magnetic fields, ribbon cable away from mains leads. Section F3 notes that the interface takes 1,280 bytes of memory and that "Press PLAY then any key" means the disc system is not connected or not powered. Sections 2.7 and 5.4 explain each disc error message. == What it does not contain == There is no circuit or repair information; that is in the Amstrad DDI-1 / FD-1 Service Manual. As a retyped edition it is not a facsimile, so check any figure that matters against a scan of the printed manual where one is available. == Pages that cite this document == * Amstrad DDI-1 β setting up, memory use and the indicator lamp * Amstrad DDI-1 Maintenance Guide β mains safety, cable routing and the error messages <pdf> File:Amstrad DDI-1 User Instructions.pdf </pdf> Download: Amstrad DDI-1 User Instructions.pdf Source: Internet Archive, manualsbase-id-69534.
