The '''''PCW9512+ Personal Computer Word Processor Service Manual''''' is Amstrad plc's service manual for the PCW 9512+. It has 35 numbered pages and is undated with no part number. This scan has 30 PDF pages, because several drawings are printed as two-page spreads, and no text layer. == Contents == Amstrad's contents list, with printed page numbers: * Technical specification, p. 2; safety tests, p. 2 * Alignment instructions, p. 3 * Monitor exploded view and parts list, pp. 4-5 * Printer exploded view and parts list, p. 6 * Keyboard PCB, exploded view and parts list, p. 7 * Paper feed exploded view and parts list, p. 8 * Tractor exploded view and parts list, p. 9 * Paper end sensor exploded view and parts list, p. 10 * Carrier frame exploded view and parts list, p. 11 * Print head and hammer drive exploded view and parts list, p. 12 * Ribbon drive exploded view and parts list, p. 13 * Wheel set release exploded view and parts list, p. 14; ribbon cassette base exploded view and parts list, p. 14 * Chassis and carrier drive exploded view and parts list, p. 15 * Main PCB, top view, p. 16; bottom view, p. 17 * Monitor/CRT PCB, pp. 18-19 * Printer/cover/open PCB, top and bottom views, p. 20 * Printer control schematic diagram, p. 21 * Keyboard schematic diagram, pp. 22-23 * Printer motor driver schematic diagram, p. 24 * CPU schematic diagram, p. 25; CPU-A, p. 26; CPU-B, p. 27; CPU-C, pp. 28-29 * Monitor 1 schematic diagram, pp. 30-31; monitor 2, pp. 32-33 * Electrical parts list, pp. 34-35 == What it settles == === Specification (p. 2) === The PCW9512+ has 512K of RAM, one 3.5-inch 720K drive with provision for a second, a paper-white 12-inch monochrome screen showing 90 columns by 32 lines, a full-size PC-style 82-key keyboard with adjustable legs, and a parallel printer port. It came with LocoScript 2, Locomail, Locospell, CP/M Plus, Mallard BASIC, GSX and Dr Logo. The daisywheel printer prints bi-directionally at 20 cps on a 15-inch carriage, loads paper automatically by bail bar action, takes daisywheels in 10, 12 and 15 cpi, and comes with a 30-sheet automatic sheet feeder and a removable tractor feed. The same page specifies the Canon BJ-10e bubble jet printer: 83, 100 and 142 cps at 10, 12 and 17 cpi; 360 × 360 dpi in high quality and 180 × 360 in draft; 52-90 g/m² paper through the sheet feeder or 52-105 g/m² by hand; Courier and Prestige Elite typefaces; a 64-nozzle head; IBM Proprinter X24E emulation; a Centronics interface; 310 × 216 × 48 mm and about 1.8 kg; and a 240 V 50 Hz 25 W AC adaptor of about 0.6 kg, with an optional NiCd battery pack. The safety tests are a 4 kV flash test between the joined mains live and neutral and all accessible exterior metal, and an insulation test requiring at least 4 MΩ. === Alignment (p. 3) === The supply is checked at connector A with CP102 disconnected and electronic loads of 1.8 A on 5 V and 1.2 A each on 12 V and 24 V (Fig. 2-1). The 24 V output should be within 1.2 V; 12 V is set with VR5002 to ±0.01 V and 5 V with VR5001 to ±0.05 V. The chart then covers vertical size (VR4002, VR4003), linearity, horizontal hold at 15.625 kHz (VR4005), sub-brightness (VR4006) and the printer hammer current, set with VR701 until the pulse waveform is 2.4 V. The equipment list is a digital voltmeter, oscilloscope, frequency counter, test pattern generator, and the RP6 or a pattern disc. === The daisywheel mechanism (pp. 6-15) === The printer is broken down into separate exploded views and parts lists for the paper feed, tractor, paper end sensor, carrier frame, print head and hammer drive, ribbon drive, wheel set release, ribbon cassette base, and chassis and carrier drive. === Electrical parts list (pp. 34-35) === Selected entries: * IC126 AMS40028, 171031; IC201 Z765APS floppy controller, 40018; IC701 AMS40088, 40088; IC801 AMS40027, 171043; IC106 AMS40087; IC107 AMS40120 * IC110-117 µPD41256C-15 and IC118-125 µPD41257C-15 DRAMs * The processor is listed as "IC501 IC X8400APS", part 40080, the part number the PCW8256 and PCW9256 manuals give for the Z8400AP(S) * F5001 mains fuse 3.15 A time-lag, 250 V, 171621 * FDD101 floppy disk drive U0DC-45A, 272508 * V8001 cathode ray tube MN1416H22AU, 272637 * PRT701 printer mechanism AP620/017-032, 177012; PRT702 ribbon cassette 620-75006, 177161; PRT703 tractor 620-83005, 177018; PRT704 daisywheel D43-017032N * X101 crystal 32.00 MHz, 171063 == What this manual does not contain == There is no floppy drive service section, no flow chart and no fault-finding procedure. There is no memory map or I/O port list; for those see [[Amstrad PCW Hardware Reference (John Elliott)]].
