The Apple Memory Guide (AMG) is a module of Apple's Service Source that lists the memory of each Apple computer, server and laser printer: soldered RAM, slot count, module type and speed, supported sizes, the maximum, and the video memory, with a drawing of the logic board marking the slots. This copy is the May 2000 edition, 165 pages, distilled from FrameMaker on 16 February 2000. Its own notes say the edition added the iBook Special Edition and the PowerBook (FireWire). Each section numbers its pages from 1; the page numbers below are PDF pages. == Contents == <templatestyles src="Template:StyledTable/styles.css" /> {| class="wikitable styled-table" style="width:100%; text-align:left;" ! Backlit Portable (p. 99): 1 MB soldered, pseudostatic RAM cards of 1 to 7 MB to an 8 MB maximum. * Original iMac (p. 92): 144-pin SDRAM SO-DIMMs in two slots on the processor board, one used by the factory module; 128 MB maximum on the M6709LL/A and 256 MB on the later models; an EDO or SGRAM module makes the machine beep several times at startup. * Slot-loading iMac, iMac DV and DV Special Edition (p. 96): two PC-100 168-pin SDRAM DIMM slots under the computer, up to 256 MB each; no soldered system RAM, so the machine will not run with both slots empty. * iBook and iBook Special Edition (p. 122): 32 MB or 64 MB soldered and one 144-pin SO-DIMM slot, 160 MB or 320 MB maximum. * Workgroup Server 9150 (p. 131): 8 MB soldered; pairs of 4, 8, 16 or 32 MB 72-pin SIMMs to 264 MB; runs in 32-bit mode at all times. AWS 95 (p. 126): no soldered DRAM; 9-bit parity SIMMs as shipped, non-parity SIMMs accepted with parity checking disabled; no composite SIMMs. == What this guide does not contain == * No removal or installation procedures; those are in each model's own Service Source. * No memory timing or electrical detail beyond module type and speed. * Some entries disagree with Apple's other documents. The Color Classic II entry gives the Color Classic's 30-pin arrangement, where Apple's technical specification page gives one 72-pin slot; see Macintosh Color Classic II Memory Upgrade Guide. The AWS 95 entry says 2 MB of VRAM needs two 256K or 512K VRAM SIMMs, while the same entry says only 256K of each 512K SIMM is used and the Quadra 900/950/AWS 95 Service Source specifies four 256K or two 512K SIMMs. == Pages that cite this document == * Macintosh Color Classic Memory Upgrade Guide * Macintosh Color Classic II Memory Upgrade Guide * Apple Workgroup Server 9150 * Apple Workgroup Server 95 * Apple Workgroup Server 9650 <pdf width="800" height="500">File:Apple Memory Guide (May 2000).pdf</pdf> Download: Apple Memory Guide (May 2000).pdf (1.6 MB) == References == <references />
