PDP-11/34 Documentation describes the Digital Equipment Corporation documents for the PDP-11/34 and its H765 power system, with the PDF of each.

PDP-11/34 System User's Manual (EK-11034-UG-001)

[edit | edit source]

DEC's user manual for the 11/34 and 11/34A, first edition July 1977, 133 pages scanned.[1]

Contents: 1 introduction: the KD11-E and KD11-EA processors, consoles, M9301 bootstrap/terminator, M9302 terminator, MOS and core memories, BA11-L and BA11-K boxes, options (pp. 1-1 to 1-14); 2 operation of the KY11-LA operator's console with the M9301 console emulator and bootstrap codes, and the KY11-LB programmer's console; 3 functional description of the halt, boot and power-switch logic and the M9301 firmware; 4 configuration: DD11-PK, DK and CK backplanes, power connector pin assignments (Tables 4-1 and 4-2), Unibus pin designations, module placement, switch and jumper settings for the M9301, DL11-W and memories; 5 installation: site, electrical requirements, initial inspection, typical switch settings, first-time start-up and the diagnostic list (Table 5-1); 6 troubleshooting: characteristics summary, quick verification routine and flowcharts for its seven actions (pp. 6-1 to 6-14). Appendices: KY11-LB maintenance mode, extended addressing, and a table of PDP-11 equipment specifications.[1]

It does not describe the power supplies beyond naming them; DEC refers to the mounting box manuals for the H765 and H777.[1]

PDP11/34A Power System (EK-1134A-TM-002)

[edit | edit source]

DEC's description of the 11/34A power system, second edition July 1977 (first June 1977), 25 pages with a text layer.[2] It covers the H775 battery backup unit, the H7441 +5 V 32 A and H785 MOS regulators, the differences from the 11/34 power system (Table 1-2), the parts of the H765 chassis and the 70-13323 regulator configurations (Table 1-3, p. 1-6), the 54-10864-0 and -YA distribution boards, installation of the H775, H785 and H7441, and the backplane +5B, +15B and −15B jumpers (Table 2-1 and Figures 2-4 and 2-5). It has no circuit descriptions.[2]

H765 power supply print set

[edit | edit source]

DEC's print set for the H765, drawing directory D-DD-H765-0 revision R, September 1977, 28 sheets.[3] The directory lists the chassis, the transformer assembly (70-11486), the AC input box, the power line monitor 54-11086 (+15 V regulator), the cap/MOV board 54-11689, the AC power control board, the power distribution board 54-10864, the H744, H745 and H754 regulators, cover and packaging. The scan is of reduced engineering drawings; values on some sheets are hard to read.[3]

H744 regulator engineering drawings

[edit | edit source]

DEC's April 1974 drawing set for the H744 +5 V 25 A regulator, four sheets including the circuit schematic and the assembly drawing with its parts list. The parts list gives the capacitor values and DEC part numbers used on PDP-11/34 Power Supply Restoration.[4] The H7441 that replaced it in the 11/34A has its own print set (MP00271), which is not hosted here.[5]

PDP-11 Mainframe Troubleshooting Guide (December 1976)

[edit | edit source]

DEC Field Service's flowcharts and DECAID reference sheets for PDP-11/05, 10, 35, 40 and 45 systems, first printing December 1976, 122 pages, marked company confidential.[6] Its power sheets apply to the regulators the 11/34 also uses: PWRB-1 gives the H744 and H745 specifications and the method for backplane voltage checks, and PWRB-3 the procedure for a regulator that has crowbarred. Other sheets cover AC LO and DC LO locations, quiescent Unibus levels, MAINDEC lists and run times, and loaders.[6]

Bitsavers holds the KD11-E and KD11-EA processor maintenance manuals, the FP11-A and KK11-A manuals, the KY11-LB maintenance manual and print sets, the 11/34 field maintenance print set volume 2 (MP00082), the BA11-K engineering drawings, and DEC drawings for the H742, H745 and H754.[7] Henk Gooijen lists the 11/34A power supply unit print set (MP00270) and the H7441 print set (MP00271) among the documents for the machine.[5]
