Apple ColorSync Display 17
The Apple ColorSync 17" Display is the name Apple gave in November 1997 to its 17-inch AppleVision 750 Display, which Apple's August 1997 Apple Facts describes as replacing the AppleVision 1710;[1] the AppleVision 750AV, with a sound enclosure, became the ColorSync 17" AV Display. Apple's service manual says the name was the only change.[2] It uses a 17-inch Sony Trinitron tube with a 16.1-inch viewable image and is set up from the Mac through Apple's AppleVision (later Apple Display) software over ADB.[3][4]
The anode runs at about 26 kV.[5] Read CRT Discharge Procedure before opening the display.

Apple's own data sheets differ from the Service Source. The November 1997 AppleVision 750 sheet gives a 0.25 mm aperture grille pitch, 90-264 V AC, 125 W maximum (under 60 W in standby), 30-82 kHz horizontal and 22.2 kg.[3] The May 1998 ColorSync Displays sheet bound into the Service Source gives 90-264 V, 125 W and order number M6159LL/A for the 17-inch model.[6] Check the rating plate on the unit.
Hardware
editThe main modules are the main deflection board (with its chassis), the CRT/video board on the tube neck, an intermediate board and the on-screen display switch board, plus an ADB board on the 750 or a sound enclosure with its own sound board on the 750AV.[7] Apple's exploded view lists the CRT/video board as 661-1373, the main deflection board with chassis as 661-1374, the intermediate board 922-3138, the sound board 922-3158, the on-screen display switch board 922-1511 and the ADB/video cable 922-2023.[8]
The display's setup parameters live on the CRT/video board. Before that board is changed they are downloaded to a file with Apple's Display Service Utility, using jumper kit 076-0529 on connector BV1, and written to the new board afterwards. High voltage can only be adjusted through the utility.[9] From January 1998 the non-AV 17-inch model used TCO 95 plastics, marked on the rear housing, which are replaced like for like.[10]
Two thin horizontal lines across the picture are the support wires of the Trinitron aperture grille, not a fault.[11]
Known faults
editApple's Hot Issues record jittery video with the Power Macintosh 5500 (serial numbers TY705 to TY715) and 6500 (XB708 to XB718) and blurry video on the 6500 (XB708 to XB723) as computer faults, and say the 6500 should not be set above 1152 × 870. A black screen after a restart is cleared by switching the display off and on.[9][12] See Apple ColorSync Display 17 Troubleshooting Guide.
Apple's service documents give no schematic or component values for this display.
