The IBM Personal System/2 Model 80 386 Technical Reference, First Edition (May 1988), is IBM's 88-page model-specific hardware and software interface reference for the PS/2 Model 80 (8580). It is the middle of three Model 80 technical references hosted here, and by far the thinnest: the April 1987 edition is a 612-page standalone book, and the October 1990 edition adds a power supply chapter back.

Figure 1-7 (p. 1-9): 165 mm wide (318 mm with the feet extended), 483 mm deep, 597 mm high, 20.6 kg with one fixed disk drive, heat output 365 W, input 90-137 V or 180-265 V at a maximum of 5.3 A or 2.7 A, and maximum allowable currents of 275 mA from the keyboard port and 300 mA from the auxiliary device port.

This is a programming and interface reference, not a service manual. There are no FRU part numbers, no removal and replacement procedures, no symptom-to-FRU index and no component values — IBM put those in the model's Hardware Maintenance Reference and Hardware Maintenance Service pamphlets. There are no schematics; the planar is described as a block diagram and a set of register and connector tables.

* IBM PS/2 Model 80 cites it.
It is also not self-contained. IBM split the PS/2 Technical Reference library into volumes, and this one carries only the model-specific part. Anything common to the family — Micro Channel architecture, the serial and parallel port controllers, the instruction sets, the keyboard scan codes — is in the Hardware Interface Technical Reference volumes, and BIOS in the BIOS Interface Technical Reference.
* IBM PS2 Model 80 Technical Reference (April 1987), IBM PS2 Model 80 Technical Reference (October 1990) and IBM PS2 Model 80 Schematics list it as related.

The May 1988 editions in particular have no power supply section at all — IBM only added one to these books in the October 1990 revision. For rail voltages and protection limits on a May 1988 machine, use the October 1990 edition of the same technical reference, or the model's Hardware Maintenance Reference.

The IBM Personal System/2 Model 80 Technical Reference (cover title) is IBM's 88-page model-specific interface reference for the PS/2 Model 80 (8580), First Edition, May 1988. It covers the Type 1 (16 MHz) and Type 2 (20 MHz) system boards, identified by model byte F8 and submodel 00 or 01 (Figure 1-1, p. 1-3), and is to be used with the PS/2 Hardware Interface Technical Reference and the PS/2 and PC BIOS Interface Technical Reference. The April 1987 single-volume book and the October 1990 edition are also hosted.
