The IBM Personal System/2 CD-ROM Drive Technical Reference is IBM's 38-page programming reference for the PS/2 CD-ROM drive, part number 15F2134, form number S15F-2134-00, First Edition, March 1990. The scan is image-only and has no text layer.

The drive is a read-only SCSI device for 120 mm discs of about 600 MB conforming to IEC 908, attached through a SCSI adapter that can take up to seven SCSI devices (p. 1).

Contents

From the contents page (p. iii):

  • Description (p. 1)
  • Programming considerations (pp. 2-8): Inquiry, Read Capacity, Read Extended and Request Sense, with the sense keys (p. 5) and additional sense data codes (p. 6); Send Other SCSI Command (p. 8)
  • SCSI commands (pp. 9-29): Test Unit Ready, Rezero Unit, Mode Select (with the page 01 error recovery and page 02 disconnect/reconnect parameters), Reserve, Release, Mode Sense, Start/Stop Unit, Prevent/Allow Media Removal, and the drive's own audio and caddy commands: Audio Track Search (hex C0), Play Audio (C1), Still (C2), Set Stop Time (C3), Eject Disc Caddy (C4), Read Subcode Q Data and Playing Status (C6), Read Disc Information (C7) and Read CD-ROM Mode (C8)
  • Connector (p. 30): pin assignments of the 50-pin SCSI signal connector

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]

There is no service information: no FRU numbers, disassembly, optical or mechanism adjustment, power connector details or component values. It does not cover the SCSI adapter, which has its own technical reference.

What it settles

[edit | edit source]

The sense key and additional sense data tables (pp. 5-7) define the error conditions the drive reports, and p. 30 gives the SCSI connector pinout.
