The IBM Personal System/2 Hardware Maintenance Library Supplement: PS/2 XGA-2 Display Adapter/A is a 10-page IBM update package dated September 1992, part number 41G3324, form number S41G-3324-00. The scan is image-only and has no text layer.

The cover describes it as an update to the IBM Personal System/2 Hardware Maintenance Service manual (part number 15F2200, printed form number SBOF-3988-00) and the Hardware Maintenance Reference manual (part number 15F2190, printed form number SBOF-3989-00). The instruction page says to file the reference supplement behind the "Options and Adapters (Micro Channel)" tab of the Reference, insert the service supplement into the Service manual, and use the supplied diskette to update a Reference Diskette or system programs.

Contents

PDF pages 1-2 are the cover and filing instructions. PDF pages 3-10 are the XGA-2 Display Adapter/A Hardware Maintenance Reference Supplement:

  • The adapter: 1 MB of VRAM, for PS/2 Micro Channel systems with 386 or 486 processors, driving analog displays through a 15-pin connector; the Option Diskette with test procedures and configuration data.
  • Display adapter compatibility (which adapter is the VGA source) and palette initialisation.
  • Graphics modes: a table of resolutions from 640 × 480 to 1280 × 1024 with frame and line rates and the IBM displays that support each.
  • Non-IBM displays and the resolution override, with a warning that some multisync displays may be damaged over time.
  • Specifications: 1.5 A, 6.0 W at +5.0 V; operating temperature and humidity.
  • Repair information: the adapter is not repairable in the field and is returned whole.
  • Connector information: the 15-pin analog video connector pinout in colour and monochrome modes.
  • Diagnostic information: the self-test (one long and two short beeps, and possibly error 0243XXXX) and the Advanced Diagnostic Test run from the system programs or Reference Diskette, which reports 0243XXXX with the slot number of the failing adapter as the second digit from the right.

What this document does not contain

The service supplement for the Hardware Maintenance Service manual and the Option Diskette are not in the scan, and neither are the two binders it updates. There is no schematic, parts list or component value.

What it settles

Error 024374XX does not mean a faulty adapter: IBM's instruction is not to replace the card, but to copy the XGA-2 Option Diskette to the backup Reference Diskette and run configuration.
