The Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display volume of Apple's Service Source is a 32-page service manual. The PDF was distilled on 9 November 1995.

Video input RGB analogue, RS-343A, 0.714 V peak-to-peak positive-going
Sync on green RS-343A level, 0.286 V ±10% negative-going during blanking
Separate or composite sync 1 to 5 V peak-to-peak, either polarity
Mains 90-134 and 198-260 VAC, self-configuring, 47-63 Hz

Size / weight 16.5 in (424 mm) H x 15.8 in (405 mm) W x 17.6 in (452.3 mm) D; 31 lb (14 kg)

The 0.714 V p-p video and 0.286 V sync-on-green levels are the most useful numbers in this manual: they are a direct go/no-go check on a suspect video cable or graphics card with an oscilloscope, and they apply to every Apple analogue RGB display of this era.

Apple also documents manual degauss: switch the monitor off and on again, noting that a full degauss is only possible after the monitor has been off for 20 minutes or more.

What this manual does not contain

No Take Apart chapter and no Exploded View. No parts list, no schematic, no component values, no fuse data. Everything in the Adjustments chapter is done from the front panel; there is no internal alignment procedure.

  • Apple Multiple Scan 15 AV Service Source - the audio version, and the one to use if a 15-inch Apple multiple-scan display has to be opened, because this volume has no Take Apart chapter at all.
  • Apple Multiple Scan 14 Service Source - the 14-inch volume. It is also exchange-only (no Take Apart, no Exploded View), but its Specifications chapter prints full monitor timing tables - back porch, sync width, front porch, dot clock and line and frame periods for 640 x 480 at 60 and 66.67 Hz and 800 x 600 at 60 and 72 Hz - which are reproduced nowhere else on this wiki. Note that Apple prints a 90-132 VAC supply for the Multiple Scan 14 and no 220-240 V figure, so that volume documents the domestic unit only.
