Amstrad DMP2000 / DMP3000 / DMP4000 Service Manual: Difference between revisions

From RetroTechCollection
Real documentation page: contents with page numbers, Amstrad's own cover note that the DMP4000 starts at page 13, the side-by-side DMP2000/DMP3000 specification differences, and a checked statement that the standalone DMP2000 manual is a genuinely different document rather than a duplicate
Rewrite: both contents lists, DMP4000 spec and parts-list detail; double-width condensed is listed for both models, not the DMP2000 only; drop editorial claims

The technical specification prints the '''DMP2000 and DMP3000 side by side''', which is the quickest way to tell two similar machines apart:
Page 2 prints the DMP2000 and DMP3000 side by side. Both are impact dot-matrix printers with 9 × 9 characters, Centronics-compatible parallel interfaces and 220–240 V AC 50 Hz supplies. The DMP2000 is rated at 105 cps maximum; the DMP3000 at 105 cps for normal characters and 52 cps double width, and it adds italics. Both list pica (10 cpi, 80 columns), elite (12 cpi, 96 columns) and the double-width and double-width condensed sizes; the condensed size (17 cpi, 137 characters per line) is listed for the DMP2000 only. The DMP2000 measures 380 × 100 × 260 mm; the DMP3000 400 × 250 × 100 mm and 4.2 kg.

* Both are impact dot matrix. '''DMP2000: 105 cps maximum'''; '''DMP3000: 105 cps normal and 52 cps double width'''.
The DMP4000 (p. 13) is a wide-carriage wire dot-matrix printer: 200 cps standard and 50 cps near letter quality, 136 columns standard and 233 condensed, tractor paper 3 to 16½ inches wide, 600 × 350 × 120 mm and 9.5 kg.
* DMP2000 printing characteristics 9 × 9 normal, 9 × 10 expanded, 9 × chosen amount for 9-pin bit image, with 96 ASCII characters plus international sets. DMP3000 adds italics and an 8 × chosen amount bit-image mode, with a normal character size of '''2.1 mm wide × 2.55 mm high'''.
* Print sizes are the same on both: standard (pica) 10 cpi / 80 cpl, mini (elite) 12 cpi / 96 cpl, double-width standard 5 cpi / 40 cpl and double-width mini 6 cpi / 48 cpl. '''Condensed (17 cpi / 137 cpl) and double-width condensed (8.5 cpi / 68 cpl) are listed for the DMP2000 only.'''

Pages 6–7 carry a '''printer mechanism parts list''', and page 12 an '''electrical parts list''' — the component-level sources for these machines.

The DMP2000/3000 electrical parts list (p. 12) gives part numbers for the ICs, including the µPD7811G-071 controller (IC6) and the L7805CY regulator (IC18), the transistors, diodes, S4VB10 and S2VB10 bridge rectifiers, the mains transformer and filter coil, and the resistors and capacitors by value. The DMP4000 list (p. 18) is laid out the same way and includes the 7805 regulator, a 4700 µF / 16 V capacitor at C2 and three fuses: T1A, T5A and T3.15A, all 250 V. The printer mechanism parts list (p. 7) and the DMP4000 mechanism list (p. 14) give mechanical part numbers, including the DMP4000 print head (190972).

'''[[Amstrad DMP2000 Printer Service Manual (standalone)]]''' is a genuinely different document — a 12-page, DMP2000-only manual, cover price £5.00, with its own contents including a '''printer mechanical drawing and parts list''' at pages 8–9 and a different arrangement of the circuit and wiring diagrams. '''The two are not duplicates''', and between them they are the fullest coverage of the DMP2000 available here.
The [[Amstrad DMP2000 Printer Service Manual (standalone)|standalone DMP2000 manual]] is a separate 12-page edition for the DMP2000 alone, with its drawings in a different order.

The DMP2000 / DMP3000 / DMP4000 Printer Service Manual is Amstrad plc's combined service manual for three dot-matrix printers. It has 22 pages and a text layer. A note under the first contents list reads "DMP2000/3000 section only. For DMP4000 see pages 13 onwards", and the DMP4000 section has its own contents list on page 13.

Specifications

[edit | edit source]

What it covers

[edit | edit source]

What this manual does not contain

[edit | edit source]
  • Troubleshooting or fault-symptom tables of the kind in the DMP1 manual.
  • Adjustment procedures.
  • The DMP1 or the LQ3500.

The standalone DMP2000 manual is a separate 12-page edition for the DMP2000 alone, with its drawings in a different order.
