IBM PC XT (5160)
The IBM Personal Computer XT (model 5160, "eXtended Technology") is the second-generation IBM PC, announced March 8, 1983. It uses the same Intel 8088 at 4.77 MHz as the 5150 and is software-compatible with it, but adds three things the 5150 lacked at launch:
- Built-in hard disk support — every XT shipped with a 10 MB MFM hard disk (later 20 MB), driven by the IBM Fixed Disk Adapter card. The standard hard drive was a Seagate ST-412 paired with a Xebec 1210 MFM controller.
- A 130 W power supply — sufficient to run the hard disk.
- Eight ISA slots instead of the 5150's five, on a redesigned motherboard.

The XT motherboard also drops the cassette port, ships with a serial card (8250 UART) as standard, and uses the same 83-key Model F keyboard as the 5150.

Architecture
The 5160 uses the same support-chip family as the 5150: Intel 8088 CPU, optional 8087 FPU, 8259A interrupt controller, 8237A-5 DMA controller, 8253-5 timer, and 8255A-5 PPI.
General Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Capacitor Replacement
The 5160 shares most of its maintenance and recap procedure with the IBM PC (5150). For the +5 V and +12 V tantalum capacitor positions on the 5160 motherboard see minuszerodegrees.net's documented capacitor lists: on the 5160 motherboard, 13 of 16 tantalum capacitors sit on the +5 V line, while C56 (a tantalum) is the +12 V filter for the expansion slots and is well-known for going short-circuit. The 5160 will operate without C56.
