Amstrad GX4000 Service Manual

The file held under this title is not a GX4000-only manual. It is Amstrad plc's combined 464 PLUS / 6128 PLUS / GX4000 / MM 12 / CM 14 Service Manual — same printed cover, same contents list — scanned at higher detail as 95 PDF pages, with the large schematics and parts lists split across several images each. The GX4000 occupies printed pages 23 to 36 of it.

Printed pages 23–36 cover the console: electrical adjustment, main PCB top and bottom views, the gate array / output interface, CPU / connection interface and video conversion / memory schematics, the power regulator schematic, the RGB convertor schematic, the cabinet exploded view and parts list, then the entire set again for the France board — separate top and bottom views, a separate power regulator schematic and a separate output interface schematic — and finally the GX4000 electrical parts list with value, circuit reference and Amstrad part number for every component.

The two board variants are the thing to take away: check which GX4000 board is in front of you before comparing it against a regulator drawing.

What this manual does not contain

  • No fault-finding flowcharts.
  • No coverage of the original CPC 464, 664 or 6128.
  • Nothing on the GX4000's cartridges or controllers beyond the connectors.
