Macintosh Performa 5300


The Macintosh Performa 5300 is an all-in-one personal computer manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc., introduced on October 17, 1995. It is a non-CD-ROM variant of the Performa 5300CD, sharing the same PowerPC 603e processor and 15" display but without the CD-ROM drive.

The Performa 5300 was intended as a lower-cost entry point for consumers who did not require CD-ROM functionality. It shares its logic board (codenamed "Cordyceps") with the Performa 5200CD and Performa 5300CD.[1]

The Performa 5300 differs from the Performa 5300CD in the following ways:

  • CD-ROM: Not included (vs 4X CD-ROM)
  • Price: Lower entry price point

All other specifications (CPU, RAM, display, expansion) are identical to the 5300CD.

Architecture and Processor

The Performa 5300 uses the PowerPC 603e processor running at 100 MHz with a 40 MHz system bus. The 603e is a 32-bit processor with a 64-bit data path, though the memory subsystem operates at 32-bit width due to the LC-derived architecture.
